The pups are 6 days old!

The puppies are doing wonderful! They all are getting bigger, Brigit just passed our only boy Bandit in weight today. This picture shows them all eating with little Betty Boop sleeping at their tails. You can see how big Brigit is getting in the center, with her brother to the right of her.

Puppy #5

Introducing Bowie... she was the last pup delivered by c-section. She eats vigorously (she takes eating time seriously!) and is gaining weight well. She has a cute spot right on the base of her tail. She weighed 7.1 and today she's 8.7. Posted by Picasa

Puppy #4

This is Brigit, she is a beautiful mahogany color. She just eats and sleeps, a very mellow pup! She weighed 7.5 at birth, and 8.9 now. Posted by Picasa

Puppy #3

This is Betty Boop (Carrie named her), she is the smallest and she is a fiesty one! From birth, she gets around the quickest. She weighed 6.8 oz at birth, and today she's 7.7 oz. Posted by Picasa

Puppy #2

Here is our only boy, Bandit. He was the biggest pup, and the one with the most color. We often find him sleeping off on his own when he finishes eating. He weighed 8 oz at birth, and today he is 9.1 oz. Posted by Picasa

Puppy #1

This is the first pup, Masyn named her Blue Belle. She is the pup that had trouble at first, but she is doing well now! Once she latches on to her momma, she won't let go (in fact, she sleeps latched on!)Her birth weight was 7.8 oz, and today she weighs 8.3. Posted by Picasa

Day 2

We got thru the first night just fine. Junie Bee is eating, going outside for short potty breaks and being a great mom. The pups are thriving. They all gained 0.4-0.8oz
Except for #1 who lost 0.1oz I supplemented her and she's nursing more. Hopefully we'll see a wt. gain tomorrow.

we waited long into the night...

Actually, it was the early morning hours before we heard our first whimper!
Junie Bee started her first stage of labor Tuesday morning with shivers and panting. Then she stopped until about 11pm that night. At 1am, she started pushing, and after 2 hours, we followed advice from the vet to take her to the emergency clinic (they were the only ones open!) for possible c-section. They were so nice! They x-rayed and thought she could deliver...one pup was in the canal and they thought she'd be okay. They gave her oxytocin and calcium and pup #1 (it's a girl!) was delivered at 4:20, followed quickly by #2 (boy), and #3 (girl). Pup #1 wasn't responding very well and she had to be revived with oxygen and meds. At this time we needed to switch to our regular vet (the emergency vet was closing). As we were packing them up, #4 (girl) came at 7:16 am! We waited, knowing there was a fifth, but she wasn't showing any more signs of contractions, so we quickly switched to our vet's office.
June Bug wasn't showing any more signs of having the last puppy when we got there, so the vet gave her pitocin and let the babies nurse to see if that would stimulate her into labor. The vet checked via xray to find that the pup was still way up in the birth canal and had a healthy heartbeat. After 3 hrs, we elected to have the pup delivered via c-section. Poor Junie! Puppy #5 (girl) was delivered around 11:15, a very healthy and happy baby, and after June Bug and pups were monitored a bit longer, we all got to go home and sleep!

The Puppies have Arrived!

Junie Bee had 5 puppies! 4 girls and 1 boy! We'll write more of an update soon...

Banjo and his buddy

Here is an old shot of Banjo and his buddy, Bazooka. Their favorite game is to sneak up quietly behind the other, and then pounce (!) tackling to the ground, and then race off before the other can catch up to counter the attack! Ahh, the life of a dog and his cat....
